HOUSING
The American Language Center does not manage, endorse, nor make specific recommendations regarding these housing facilities. This information is provided simply for the convenience of the students and does not suggest that the providers listed below are the only options for housing.
All housing contracts and arrangements are made between the students and the housing providers and are not the responsibility of the American Language Center.
There are three types of housing:
- Residence Halls (on- and off-campus)
- Furnished Apartments
- Homestays (living with an American family)
How should I reserve housing?
UCLA on-campus summer housing can be reserved with ALC. All off-campus, non-UCLA housing reservations must be made directly with the housing providers. Please review the UCLA and Non-UCLA Housing Information Sheet for more details.
When should I reserve housing?
The ALC strongly recommends that you arrange your accommodations before you arrive. This will help you have an enjoyable and relaxing experience while studying in the American Language Center. Remember, applying early helps improve the chance that you will get the type of housing you want. The ALC recommends that you apply at least 30 days before the start of your program.
How should I pay?
All of the housing providers prefer credit card payments for faster service. Checks drawn on an American bank is the second preferred method. Homestay providers also offer wire payment service. (Please note that no international postal money orders are accepted.)
The American Language Center cannot accept payments for off-campus, non-UCLA housing. All payments must be submitted directly to the off-campus housing providers
UCLA On-Campus Housing:
- UCLA on-campus housing is available for summer ALC programs only.
- Students may choose between dormitory-style or apartment accommodations.
- Meal plans are available.
- Students have access to computer labs, fitness centers, and swimming pools.

Things to Think About
- No maid service
- Only triple rooms are available in the residence halls
- Students have the opportunity to cook their own meals in the apartments
- Less privacy but more chances to meet and make friends
- Requests for a specific roommate require you and your desired roommate to apply at the simultaneously and to request each other on your applications
Off-campus, Non-UCLA Housing:
Private-Owned Residence Halls
- Privately-owned residence halls provide year-round dormitory-style accommodations
- Meals are included in the housing fees
- Students have access to computer labs and recreation rooms
- Students have the option of one, two, or three roommates.
Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority House - female students only
- Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority House provides year-round, dormitory-style housing.
- Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority Housing is located within walking distance to ALC classes.
- 14 meals are served each week.
- Student have access to wireless internet, a study room, and laundry facilities.
To obtain housing at Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority House, you will need to email the House Director at aephihousing@aol.com for an application form.
Things to Think About
- No single rooms
- Less privacy but more chances to meet and make friends
- Students need to set up their own telephone service
- Students must bring their own towels and bed linens
- Alpha Psi House provides dormitory-style accommodation for the winter, spring, and fall ALC programs
- Alpha Psi House is located within walking distance to ALC classes
- 14 meals are served each week
- Students have access to wireless internet, study hall, and laundry facility
To obtain housing at Alpha Psi House, you will need to complete the Alpha Psi House Association application form. Please email the completed form directly to Alpha Psi House at alphapsihousing@yahoo.com.
Things to Think About
- House closes for winter break
- No single rooms
- No parking available
- Less privacy but more chances to meet and make friends
- You must set up your own telephone service
- You must provide your own bed linens, pillow, and towels
Hillside Residence Hall
- Hillside provides year-round dormority-style accommodation.
- Hillside is located within walking distance to ALC classes.
- 18 meals are included in the housing fees.
- Students have access to a computer lab and recreation rooms.
To obtain housing at Hillside, you will need to complete the Hillside Residence Hall application form and provide credit card information for payment of the $200 application fee. Email the completed form directly to Hillside at hillside_la@yahoo.com.
Things to Think About
- No maid service
- No on-site security
- No single rooms
- Less privacy but more chances to meet and make friends
- You must set up your own telephone service
- Male and female students share restroom facilities (on some floors)
- The Co-op provides year-round dormitory-style accommodations.
- The Co-op is located within walking distance to ALC classes.
- 19 meals are included in the housing fees.
- Students have access to a computer lab, library, and recreation rooms.
To obtain housing at the Co-op, you will need to complete the University Cooperative Housing Association application form and provide credit card information for payment of the housing fees. Fax the completed form directly to the Co-op at (310) 824-0112.
Things to Think About
- Availability is very limited and there is a long waiting list
- No maid service
- Best for ALC students with an intermediate speaking ability or higher
- Best for students enrolled in AIEP or students taking multiple consecutive sessions of IECP (housing dates must correspond to UCLA quarters)
- Less privacy but more chances to meet and make friends
- You must set up your own telephone service
- You must supply your own pillow, bed sheets, and towels
Furnished Apartments
- Furnished apartments provide year-round furnished accommodations
- Full kitchens are available for students to prepare their own meals
- Students may have access to parking, laundry facilities, and a pool
- Students have the option of a shared or private apartment
- USH apartments provide year round furnished accommodations.
- USH apartments are located within walking distance to ALC classes.
- The apartments are in a secure building with 24 hour emergency support.
- Students have access to a rooftop pool, sauna, and jacuzzi.
To apply for the furnished apartments with USH, you will need to complete the online apartment application form on their website, usaish.com, and provide credit card payment information for the $350 application fee and security deposit.
Things to Think About
- No maid service
- Good for mature students
- Students are responsible for their own dishes and laundry
- Two students per bathroom
- Private rooms and apartments available
- Students must set up their own internet access
- Oakwood provides year round furnished accommodations.
- Palazzo Westwood property is located within walking distance to ALC classes
- Marina Del Rey property is located 30 minutes from ALC classes and UCLA by bus
- The apartments have a maid service option available
- Students have access to swimming pools and fitness centers in both properties

- Westwood Village Apartments provide year round furnished accommodations
- Westwood Village Apartments are located within walking distance to ALC classes
- The apartments have a maid service option available
- Students have access to a fitness center, sauna, and rooftop pool

- Good for mature students

- Jefferson Court apartment provides year-round furnish accommodations
- Jefferson Court apartments are located within walking distance to ALC classes.
- The apartments are in a secure building with 24 hour emergency support.
- Students have access to high-speed internet access, gated parking, and laundry facilities.
To apply for the furnished apartments with Jefferson Court on Midvale, you will need to complete the online request form on their website, www.jeffersoncourtmidvale.com, and provide your contact and preference information. A sales representative will contact you and assist you in securing your housing space.
Things to Think About

- Good for mature students
- Students are responsible for their own dishes and laundry
- Two students per bathroom
- Private rooms and/or apartment are not available
- Students must sign a minimum, one-year housing contract
- Westwood Villa Apartments provides year round accommodation.
- Westwood Villa Apartments are located 20 minutes from the ALC classes by bus.
- The apartments are in a secure building with 24 hour emergency support.
- Students have access to a pool, gated parking, and laundry facilities.
To apply for the furnished apartment with Westwood Villa Apartments, you will need to complete the online application form on their website, www.westwoodvillaapts.com, and provide payment information for the application fee and security deposit.
Things to Think About

- Furniture provided upon request only (additional charges will apply)
- Good for mature students
- Students are responsible for their own dishes and laundry
- Private apartments available
- Student must set up their own internet access
- Student must sign a minimum, 6-month housing contract
Homestays
- Homestays provide year-round accommodations
- Students live and interact with a family in the Los Angeles area
- Meal plans are available
- Students have the options of a shared or private room
- USH homestays are available year round
- Students live and interact with a family in the Los Angeles area
- 1 or 2 meals per day are available
- Host families are located 10-to-30 minutes by bus from ALC classes and UCLA

- 1 or 2 meals per day are available

- Many Los Angeles hotels provide special UCLA rates for students who need short-term, temporary accommodations because they:
- have arrived in Los Angeles one or more days before their housing move in date
- have arranged their flight to depart one or more days after their housing check-out date
- need somewhere to stay between programs
